Charissa travels to London for CU Futures

Last month Penny Post’s Charissa Roswess travelled to London for the next part of her CU Futures programme. During her two day stay, Charissa completed her Leading in a High-Performance Culture Module and got to visit London Mutual Credit Union!

We were thrilled when Charissa was selected for the CU Futures programme back in June! Charissa is the 4th member of the Penny Post team to have been selected for the 10-month intensive development programme for young professionals, following in the footsteps of Jas, Hannah and Lewis!

We caught up with Charissa to find out more about her experience and the lessons she learned on her travels!

How was your journey down to London?

“The journey from Wolverhampton to London was pretty simple but getting to Peckham from London Euston was in no way straight forward! We all took different routes and one person said he ended up walking for 2 hours! He assured us that he enjoys walking and that he had planned to, so I guess it’s not as bad as it sounds.”

How did you find your training sessions?

“On Monday morning we had our first session called ‘Leading in a High-Performance Culture’. For this course we had to complete and use our Personal Blueprints from earlier in the year. I found this course to be very encouraging. It allows you to open your thoughts and think about how you can do better in your personal and professional life, which in turn gives you the awareness of how to be a good leader/manager in the future!”

“In the afternoon we attended a session on presenting skills delivered by the former Radio 4 presenter, Liz Barclay, who was fantastic! She has given me so many tips on how to make my presentations more memorable. As part of this training session, we were put in groups, given a subject and had less than an hour to create a presentation on the subject! I think it went well but Liz said I spoke a little fast so that’s definitely something I have to work on!”

What did you think of London Mutual Credit Union?

“On Tuesday we had a guided tour of London Mutual Credit Union and WOW I was blown away! They do everything and more! They have credit cards, current accounts, and lots of different loans to cater for their member’s needs. Their loans team is massive! They have a person for every step. It was interesting to see that it can take them up to 10 days to process a loan, whereas here at Penny Post we can approve a loan in as little as 30 mins if all the supporting documents are provided”.

“Overall, I had a wonderful time in London as part of the CU Futures programme, I was well looked after and learned so much!“

London Mutual Credit Union was founded in 1982 by Southwark Council employees. Since then, they’ve grown to become one of the largest credit union’s in the UK, with over 30,000 members. Their common bond includes anyone who lives or works in Southwark, Lambeth, Westminster or Camden, those working in health and education occupations in London, as well as members of the armed forces nationwide.

We’re so happy to hear that Charissa enjoyed her time in London and can’t wait to hear more about what she gets up to next on CU Futures! It’s such a great opportunity for young professionals like Charissa!
