Ask an ApprenticePosted on Feb 09, 2022
Today is Ask an Apprentice Day, part of National Apprenticeship Week 2022, and we catch up with Rav, our Customer Service Apprentice who joined us in April last year, to see how he is finding his apprenticeship, what he’s learned so far and what he’s hoping to achieve next with Penny Post!
How are you finding your apprenticeship with Penny Post?
“My apprenticeship with Penny Post has been very enjoyable so far. Starting a new job from home was going to be challenging, but I feel I’ve settled in well and everyone has been very helpful and supportive. The last 10 months have flown by, and I can’t believe I’m already coming towards the final stretch of my qualification!”
What have you learned so far with Penny Post?
“I’ve learnt a lot of new things in my time here so far, starting with what a credit union actually is, as I had never come across one before applying for this apprenticeship. Seeing how credit unions are run and operated to best help their members has been really interesting to learn about. My time at Penny Post has also made me a more confident person, from talking to members each day on the phone to presenting at the weekly meeting.”
What are you hoping to achieve next with Penny Post?
“In the next couple months, I’m hoping to complete my apprenticeship and continue as part of the Customer Service Team in a full-time role. Beyond this I would like to look at joining the ABCUL Young Professionals Network and applying for CU Futures to enhance my knowledge of credit unions and progress further within Penny Post. It is a promising time with Voyager Alliance and Retail CU joining the Penny Post Group and I’m excited for the what the future holds.”
What advice would you give to someone who is looking at possibly doing an apprenticeship?
“Go ahead and do it! Having worked regular full-time jobs and other apprenticeships, I would recommend it to anyone who is thinking of doing one. Learning on the job and gaining a qualification whilst working is invaluable and stands you in good stead for the future.”
Keep up the great work Rav, and good luck in completing your apprenticeship and in your career with Penny Post!
