Emily named as new YPN chairpersonPosted on Dec 01, 2023
Penny Post Group Communications Officer, Emily Alexander, has been named the new chairperson of ABCUL’s Young Professionals Network (YPN) and will lead the YPN into its fifth year.
Emily has been a valued member of the YPN Steering Committee for several years and has held the position of Vice-Chair for the last six months.
“I’m thrilled to be appointed ABCUL’s YPN Chairperson,” said Emily. “The network has been invaluable to my professional and personal development so I’m proud to now be chair of the network. There are definitely some big shoes to fill but I can’t wait to get started”. Emily will be supported in her role by a newly elected Vice-Chair, Liam Cartwright from Enterprise Credit Union.
The YPN launched in 2019 to help engage younger people within the credit union movement. It is led by a steering committee of volunteers who help plan and manage younger people working in credit unions.
We caught up with Emily to find out more about this exciting appointment.
How did you get involved in the YPN?
“I’ve always tried to say ‘yes’ to every opportunity and in 2020 I completed ABCUL’s CU Futures programme. I had only been part of the credit union movement for around 6 months before I embarked on the year-long training course about all things credit unions! I was really happy when I was awarded the winner of the 2020 programme. Off the back of this, I was asked to join the YPN steering committee, to play a part in planning and managing the YPN. I jumped at the chance to join, and I haven’t looked back.”
What is the YPN?
Back in 2019, the YPN launched on a national stage to engage younger people within the credit union movement. The YPN is led by a steering committee, bringing together a handful of volunteers to help plan and manage younger people working in credit unions.
Why is the YPN important to you?
“I’m very lucky to work with a team and have a network which supports young people and their development. I’m aware that not everybody has this and the YPN is a unique opportunity which helps you to connect with others working in our sector. The YPN is important to build your own network and for helping others do the same.”
Are you looking forward to getting started?
“I’m really looking forward to getting started. I want younger people to build on their network to lean on when they need to. I certainly feel like there is some pressure because I know how invaluable it can be to have supportive people around you, and how beneficial it can be to learn from each other, but I can’t wait to hit the ground running!”
Congratulations Emily, we’re very proud of you!
