Charissa’s 5K Challenge
Posted on Mar 23, 2021Meet Charissa Roswess, a member of the Penny Post Finance Team!
Charissa has started raising funds for the charity Centrepoint, by running 5K every month for 7 months. She has set herself an overall target of £500 and so far, she has raised £244.
She says “Centrepoint is such a worthy charity – I’m so glad to have found them. I was inspired by someone who confided in me when she was in a state of crisis and felt she had nowhere to go. My friend is doing so much better now, but it got me thinking.”
Charissa continues “I can say I’m a truly blessed person as I have such an amazing support team around me to help me cope with situations. My mother, who has now sadly passed away, was disabled all of my life and there were many times she became so sick that I could have been taken into care. But I was not, because of my supporting family. Some young adults do not have that support around them – they have nowhere to go and no-one to turn to. It is incredibly easy to find yourself homeless when things suddenly go wrong. So, I’m doing this 7 month 5k run for them.”
Centrepoint is the UK’s leading youth homeless charity, supporting over 14,000 young people every year. It gives homeless people a place to stay while they get the help needed to move on to independence, getting them past the mental and physical effects they are experiencing. HRH The Duke of Cambridge has been the Patron since 2005 – following in the footsteps of his mother, Princess Diana. Prince William would visit Centrepoint hostels when he was a child and, when it was his turn to take over some of her patronages, Centrepoint was the first one he chose. Charissa is training for her 5K challenges by running 4 times a week in her lunchbreaks. She is passionate about this cause and wants to hit her £500 target – and exceed it – with all our help. If you would like to donate, please visit her fundraising page by clicking here.
Good luck Charissa, we’re really proud of you!
